Our Story

Hummingbird Charities took flight from a simple idea: no one in our communities should be left behind. The concept was first championed by Dr Christopher Tufton, who recognised the social and economic pressures facing families in West Central St. Catherine and sought a structured programme to bring relief, dignity, and opportunity.

That vision drew the support of compassionate Jamaicans—among them the late Bidalyn Plummer—who helped build what became the West Central Hope Foundation, a source of comfort for thousands through food, clothing, mobility aids, and other vital assistance.

As the work expanded, the Foundation evolved into Hummingbird Charities, extending its reach beyond West Central St. Catherine to communities across Jamaica. Today, that spirit of kindness and hope continues to guide us: every act of giving, no matter how small, can spark a ripple of change.

What we do

Discover our mission-driven approach

To empower underserved communities in Jamaica by providing access to health care, education, nutrition, and housing through compassionate, community‑led programs.

Many Jamaican communities still face unequal access to basic services. Our programmes are designed to bridge these gaps—bringing screenings to hard‑to‑reach areas, meals to families experiencing food insecurity, shoes to children so they can attend school with confidence and coordinated support for safer living conditions.

A Jamaica where every individual has access to basic needs, opportunities for growth, and the dignity to thrive—regardless of socioeconomic background.
